"What family doesn’t have its ups and downs?” So asks Queen Eleanor of Acquitaine in this witty and elegant comedy. Christmas Eve in the year 1183 AD brings together one of history’s least functional royal families. Adultery, sibling rivalry and repression produce turmoil when practiced by England’s King Henry II, his queen and their nasty brood, two of whom are also destined to be kings. So what if this family’s bickering can unleash war on all of Europe? That’s just the way things are.
