Kanata Theatre: the 36th season (2004-2005)

The Dynamic Duo Ready to Hit the Kanata Theatre Stage Again

by Clare Flockton

You have been asking for them, and now they’re back! That amazing duo, Brooke Keneford and Jenny Haynes – the masters of farce - are at it again! The play is Caught in the Net by Ray Cooney. This hilarious British farce, the sequel to Run for Your Wife, finds our bigamist taxi driver, John Smith, still keeping both his families (one in Wimbledon and one in Streatham) happy and blissfully unaware of each other. But his teenage children - a girl by one wife and a boy by the other - have met on the Internet and are determined to meet in person, since they appear to have much in common. John lunges into a hell-hole of his own making in order to keep them apart.

Keneford and Haynes have appeared together in numerous farces over the years, some of the most memorable being Not Now Darling, There Goes the Bride, Key For Two, Lend Me A Tenor and Moon Over Buffalo to name just a few. The strong comic cast also includes fellow farce veterans Barry Caiger, Geoffrey Holland and Susan Monaghan along with new young talent Natasha Bourke-Wilson, a student at Canterbury high school, and Jon Matthews who has recently wowed them on stage at his school, The Earl of March. Acting as traffic cop and choreographer extraordinaire in this 7-cast, 7-door madcap production is Kanata Theatre’s award winning, master director, Rosemary Keneford.

The play runs Tuesday to Saturday from March 29th until April 9th 2005. If you have not already purchased tickets, don’t miss the sparkling champagne reception on Opening Night at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $15, so hurry down to the Ron Maslin playhouse at 1 Ron Maslin Way (right off Terry Fox Drive). The box office will be open Monday to Friday 5:00 pm-8:00 pm and Saturdays 10:00-noon starting March 14th.
