Kitchen Witches sure to cast spell on audience

Kanata Theatre is getting ready to kick off its 41st season with a hilarious farce called The Kitchen Witches, which is sure to have you falling out of your seats with laughter.

Canadian playwright Caroline Smith has written an extremely witty and intelligent farce that has many unexpected twists and turns. Even though this side splitter is steeped in calamity, there is a real sense of humanity and tenderness at the heart of this play. It is written so eloquently that you really are left wanting more.

The play centers around two very colourful ladies who are life long arch-enemies, whom by fate are thrown together to host their own cable cooking show:

Dolly, played by Susan Monaghan, is a vivacious and over-bearing woman who goes in for the big gestures and wonderful accents; while pretentious Izzy, played by Isabella Marcinek, is the embodiment of the elegant but snobby cordon bleu chef.

Trying to keep these two passionate woman from literally killing each other is Stephen
Biddle, Dolly's son, played by Les Cserepy. Stephen is the show's producer and he has quite a challenge ahead of him, mostly trying to find his Mother's rum bottle that she hides all over the set.

This production takes place on the sensational set of Dolly's and Izzy's cooking show.

What is so unique about the play  is that you almost forget that you are at the theatre and think you may actually be witnessing the live taping of a television show. It really is a wonderful experience because as the audience, you actively become part of the action on stage.

This extremely touching play opens on Sept. 15 and runs until Sept. 26, with no performances on the Sunday and Monday. All tickets are $15 and curtain is 8 p.m. sharp.
